It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since the shooting at Virginia Tech. I've been hesitant to speak to media about the anniversary because of all the ways that coverage can go wrong (e.g. exploiting victims, drawing attention to shooters, etc.), but I agreed to this front page story and was thankful that reporter Rachel Ohm focused on The Story of the Stuff, what it means to process grief, and violence prevention efforts.
Over the Labor Day weekend, NPR's All Things Considered aired a story where I was asked to comment on the practice of preserving temporary memorials. You can listen to the full story here.
